about the project |
Benefits to young people |
| WE FIT is designed as an addition to the national curriculum, a fun activity for extended services, and holiday schemes. Young people gain physical, health and social skills through innovative physical exercise, interactive issue based work and best of all they get to play computer games for part of the project. Participants get 1 hour of physical exercise & 1 hour health/issue based work a week.Physical activities range from “old school” circuits, relays and schoolyard games, to cutting edge interactive technology such as the Nintendo Wii Fit package, which incorporates Yoga, Aerobics, Balance Games, and Strength training.
To compliment this fantastic fun we incorporate an underpinning health and wellbeing message in sessions such as when they don the drinkwize goggles (impairs vision) and they try to perform physical tasks. Rapping workshops were they create a music video, and drama based interactive sessions. |
The project also incorporates accreditation through ASDAN so the young people can gain transferable qualifications while having a fantastic experience.WE FIT has two cartoon characters called NJ and Archie who along with an interactive web site assist in reinforcing the health message with downloadable resources, health related games, and session plans so organisations or schools can continue parts of the project for themselves. The project is extremely flexible and can be tailored to organisations and needs of the young people. We link heavily into local provision. Sports clubs, extended services and local government facilities/organisations so young people have the best chance to continue on a healthy lifestyle. |
